Windells Academy students take major competitions by storm

A handful of Windells Academy students are causing quite the commotion in the emerging freeski lineup. Most recently, Senior Academy student and Indiana native, Nick Goepper, took first in Men’s Ski Slopestyle at the Winter Dew Tour Championships at Snowbasin. Nick’s performance won him the number two spot for overall Dew Tour Slopestyle athletes, as well as his fifth consecutive podium at a major event. Nick was named the Mitch Breakthrough Male Athlete of the Year. Currently, Nick holds the number one spot for Men’s Slopestyle in the AFP Top 100. Huge congratulations, Nick, from all of us at Windells! Read more about Goepper’s win from Freeskier Magazine and Alli Sports.

Alex Beaulieu-Marchand, Senior Windells Academy student from Quebec City, Canada, took 10th in Men’s Ski Slopestyle at the final Dew stop. ABM placed 9th at the Waterville stop and he was runner up for the Ballpark Rookie of the Year award. ABM has had an impressive year and the Windells Academy staff of teachers and coaches are ecstatic about his overall performance.

Both Nick and ABM have received offers from the US and Canadian Freeski Teams. Mike Hanley, Windells Academy President, describes both boys as academically driven. After graduation, Alex has his sights set on Universite Laval in Quebec and Nick plans to attend Westminster in Utah.

Windells alumni are continuing their successes years after they graduate from the Academy. Maggie Stout, Pennsylvania native, placed second in Women’s Pipe at the North Face Open. Congrats, Maggie!

Countdown to Winter Camp Begins!

Winter Camp is so close we can almost taste the piles of powder and the overflowing hot chocolate. We know that spending time at home is nice, but we also know that spending time at Windells on Mt. Hood is a little nicer. Just in case you missed it, here is some footage from one of our banners years here in Oregon.

Winter Photo Contest Winners

It’s Friday! Which means the weekend is only minutes away, but more importantly, we are announcing the photo contest winners today! Thanks for sending all of the awesome pow shots. We enjoyed sifting through them this week in the office. As the air gets colder and the top of Mount Hood gets whiter, we know that our infamous Oregon powder is right around the corner. If you have never experienced a winter out here, we highly recommend it. There is nothing better than knee deep turns through the trees, forgiving landings for those first ever back flip attempts, and all the terrain you could ever ask for. Don’t take our word for it, come see for yourself! Winter Camp is coming up quick, and these lucky winners are getting a head start! So here it goes, drum roll please…..

Forum Goes On Vacation In Portland

Well, another amazing Portland weekend is in the books. This time it was the Forum crew that paid us a visit. With their new movie premiering nationwide, the boys are truly living every day like it is “Vacation.” In the 2011/2012 installment, our friends Austen Sweetin, Cam Pierce, and Stevie Bell travel the world in search of fresh snow, urban playgrounds, and poolside festivities. Grab your Hawaiian shirt and throw on some flip flops for this one, it’s good.

DTTD with Rome SDS

This past weekend we got a chance to catch up with the Rome SDS crew for some premiers, some shenanigans, and of course, the Downtown Throwdown. Winter is in the air as the national tour for “The Shred Remains” comes to an end. Having traveled from coast to coast in a van they call home, it was nice for the team to get out and peruse the town, and even do a little guest judging and competing. The 6th Annual DTTD, set in Pioneer Square, attracted a mixed crowd of die hard fans and first time spectators. We joined LNP, Johnny Lazz, Marie France-Roy, Rusty Ockenden, John Cavan, Riley Nickerson, and Derrek Lever for a little taste of snowboarding in the Pacific Northwest.

Student Spotlight: Diva Helmy

This week at Windells Academy, we wanted to put one of our recent graduates, Diva Helmy, in the spotlight. Diva is living the life.
