A spring storm has hit the Northwest! Mt. Hood is getting an insane amount of snow this week. Snow really started falling yesterday and we don’t see any sign of it letting up. Meadows reported 25″+ in the last 24 hours and a total base of 169″. The evidence is in the snapshot of their picnic tables! Timberline is sitting pretty and prepped for a fantastic summer. We were happy to see this photo of the Palmer buried under the late winter snow pack. Timberline’s reported base depth of 198″ is above average!
The Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships turned “29 again” this winter. Superhumans Elena Hight, Jamie Anderson, and former campers Shaun White and Louie Vito topped the podiums while common folk grazed for free stuff at the sponsor tents. Method Man and Redman played a concert for VIP Open goers and, as always, too much fun was had.
A handful of Windells Academy students are causing quite the commotion in the emerging freeski lineup. Most recently, Senior Academy student and Indiana native, Nick Goepper, took first in Men’s Ski Slopestyle at the Winter Dew Tour Championships at Snowbasin. Nick’s performance won him the number two spot for overall Dew Tour Slopestyle athletes, as well as his fifth consecutive podium at a major event. Nick was named the Mitch Breakthrough Male Athlete of the Year. Currently, Nick holds the number one spot for Men’s Slopestyle in the AFP Top 100. Alex Beaulieu-Marchand, Senior Windells Academy student from Quebec City, Canada, took 10th in Men’s Ski Slopestyle at the final Dew stop. ABM placed 9th at the Waterville stop and he was runner up for the Ballpark Rookie of the Year award. ABM has had an impressive year and the Windells Academy staff of teachers and coaches are ecstatic about his overall performance.
Both Nick and ABM have received offers from the US and Canadian Freeski Teams. Mike Hanley, Windells Academy President, describes both boys as academically driven. After graduation, Alex has his sights set on Universite Laval in Quebec and Nick plans to attend Westminster in Utah.
Windells alumni are continuing their successes years after they graduate from the Academy. Maggie Stout, Pennsylvania native, placed second in Women’s Pipe at the North Face Open. Congrats, Maggie!

Our employees are amazing. They come from all over the country to live life in Mt. Hood with Windells Camp. Once August starts to slip away, they all eventually have to go back to reality and back to their roots. As winter settles in, our employees are building parks, taking classes, teaching lessons, and just about everything you can think of to pass the time until summer rolls around.

Convention Center is taken over by the world of skiing, snowboarding, and skateboarding. Winter Camp is so close we can almost taste the piles of powder and the overflowing hot chocolate. We know that spending time at home is nice, but we also know that spending time at Windells on Mt. It’s Friday! Which means the weekend is only minutes away, but more importantly, we are announcing the photo contest winners today! Thanks for sending all of the awesome pow shots. We enjoyed sifting through them this week in the office. As the air gets colder and the top of Mount Hood gets whiter, we know that our infamous Oregon powder is right around the corner. If you have never experienced a winter out here, we highly recommend it. There is nothing better than knee deep turns through the trees, forgiving landings for those first ever back flip attempts, and all the terrain you could ever ask for.
