Bonfire’s first Pipe 2 Pipe went down a few days ago here at Windells and even though a little bit of fog rolled in during the contest, Windells staff emerged from the clouds to lay down bangers and take both first and third for the snowboarding portion of the day. Scott Hoffman, one of the diggers, took home first place and 500 bucks and Windells veteran, Jeremiah Paquette landed himself in third place and grabbed 100 bucks.

Scott Hoffman took first and 500 bucks on hill with some jib trickery
Windells: You just won five hundred bucks–what are your plans for said money?
Scotty: I am going to save my money for a snowmobile.
Windells: So it was a pretty good day, overall?
It was really fun. Everybody was having a lot of fun and basically it was the funnest day of my life. The set up was really fun, it was like a down flat rail and a down-flat-down rail and I gapped it and a down rail. All the rails were really smooth. It was basically the best thing I could have asked for. [And] we sang the national anthem, me and Kyle [Martola], yesterday morning when we were grooming the park.
Windells: So it would be like a baseball game?
Scotty: Exactly.
Windells: So you think that might have given you the extra edge in the competition?
Scotty: Uh huh. Straight American.

Jeremiah (on right) gets by with a little help from his friends.
Windells: I hear this is your first cash money victory.
Jeremiah: It is. Big Money. I’ve always won weird things like tshirts and hats, stickers, [but] always looking out for the money. It took about 13 years in the making in my snowboarding career. We pulled through in the end.
Windells: What was the height of your trickery in the comp?
Jeremiah: Probably the 5050 noseblunt slide on the down-flat-down rail.
Windells: How long before you go pro?
Tentatively, it’s scheduled for the ’13-’14 season, so I got a couple more years. [I'm] working on some moves, but I think I’ll get there.

It was certification day at Windells for all coaches and staff. A Red Cross worker came into Bob and gave us all hands on training on both first aid and CPR. It was very interesting and the teacher held the attention of the class very well. Here are the highlights:
1. You can’t use crazy glue instead of stitches, it just takes longer to heal.
2. If you knock out your teeth, put them in Milk and get to the dentist fast!!!
3. If giving CPR, it’s 30 pumps to every 2 breaths of air into the person.
4. It’s really easy to make a sling out of a bandanna.
5. The CPR dummies actually had lungs so you could tell if you were positioning them correctly when giving mouth to mouth.
People like us understand that there are consequences to the risks we take and it’s always a good idea to get freshened up on First Aid. Check your local Red Cross website and sign up for a quick refresher course. Every body falls, if your not falling, your not pushing yourself. Thus, learn how to take care of any problems you might have and get back to riding faster. Of course we never hope to use any of the information learned today, but it’s nice to know that the people taking you to the slopes and the skateparks know what to do in case anything happens. Windells always has your back!!!!

The Cricket Wireless Campus Rail Jam Tour took place this past weekend in Downtown Portland. Snow was hauled in from Mt. Hood and 3 rails were shredded in front of 3000+ that were in attendance. The contest was started by a college organization who wanted to get experience putting on marketing programs and a national tour. It blossomed into a strong following and an entire west coast tour visiting 14 colleges in seven states. By ridaz for ridaz!!!

Staffer Kyle Martola took his strong contest skills with him into the finals and ended up taking a very respectable second place. It paid out $500 cash and a whole slew of prizes including a new snowboard. Congratulations kyle, way to put on for Oregon and Wisconsin.

Amazing skater and absolute beast Josh Bishop ended up taking first place at the event. That’s right, Windells took the top two positions at the finals. Josh is the kind of kid that doesn’t let contests go to his head so the first thing he did when he got back to camp was go straight to work in the Kitchen. Hard work and determination will get you anywhere, bring your work ethic with you to Windells and only good things can happen. See you this summer!!!
