Made from scratch: Mervin Manufacturing

The 2010 fall semester has been filled with exciting industry trips for Windells Academy. Students have gone behind the scenes of some of the top businesses within action sports and this week was no exception. America’s leading snowboard factory, Mervin Manufacturing invited Windells Academy to tour their facilities and meet the people behind the making of Lib Tech, Roxy and GNU technologies.

Sponsors. A Taste

At the end of the day, if it was not for our sponsors donating unlimited amounts of product and promoting athlete appearances to Windells Camp, it just would,nt not be the same. High Fives for the industry! Below are a few videos of companies that have shown great support over the years. Obviously, there are more companies then listed below but we can not show them all?

Enjoy.

Show Us Your Boots: A Full Tilt Contest

Campers:  you were able to try a number of our Full Tilt’s at Dex’s Demo, this past summer, now here is your chance to win a pair of your own.  Details Below:

SHOW US YOUR BOOTS!

Full Tilt Ski Boot Giveaway

“I thought once I ran out of these boots I would have to retire from skiing.”- Seth Morrison

Full Tilt’s commitment to keeping the Original 3-Piece design alive has been inspired by the passionate people skiing them for all these years. With over 30,000 views of the already 200+ submissions in two weeks, the “Show us Your Boots!” online contest is an opportunity for these skiers to virally share their real-life inspiring stories & pics about keeping their own pair of original 3-piece boots alive, just like pro skier Seth Morrison. Seth has been riding the same boot design for over 21 years and they seem to work well for him. For everyone else that doesn’t own a pair, they can just explain why their current boots aren’t working and why they deserve a new pair of Full Tilts.

Each month’s most inspiring, convincing & more often than not hilarious submission wins a new pair of Full Tilt Ski Boots of their choice & also appears in web ads re-promoting the contest. September’s winner was Stephan “Chai” Chaikovsky of Denver who was so desperate for some new boots he created one on his foot with some markers! The question remains, who will win the next pair?  Will it be the guy with the Full Tilt logo tattooed on his shoulder or the kid who’s dog pooped in his boots, or someone else?

Windells Academy Talks Business With Atmosphere

Located on 800 SE Hawthorne Blvd you’ll find a kitschy Portland antique shop filled with furniture plucked right from grandmas living room. Just one flight up is Atmosphere Clothing, a self-described, “Super-fashion Company”.  John Prosser, Head of Business Relations, invited Windells Academy students to the warehouse and offered a refreshing perspective on international business.

Atmosphere and Windells update!

Coach Rick Rodriguez during the Atmopshere on hill jam on the corrogated pipe.

The guys at Atmosphere do an awesome job of hooking campers up every session with fun activities and rad Atmosphere clothing. During Session 6, they not only held an event on hill, like they do each session, they also met up with the skate campers and hung out, skated and bbq’d.

Windells' Tommy J and skate campers hanging with Atmosphere Pier Park in Portland.

Check out the full post here.

The Atmopshere Snake Race is the fastest sponsor night at camp each week, as campers and staff race down the hill by BOB, around cones through the Concrete Jungle. If you're not ready to attack it on your skateboard, it's great for spectating, too.

And don’t forget the weekly Atmosphere Snake Race. Read and check out the photos, here.

Traveling Circus Week

You wish you were here taking advantage of all of the sweet free gear that Will, Andy and the guys will be tossing out all this week!  Stay tuned throughout next winter to find out when next years Line Skis TC week!

Atmosphere Session 4 update

Enzo is on the kitchen crew and is the hype man for Atmosphere. What does that mean? He makes tasty vittles for you each and every day so you can shred on a full belly and at night he leads super fun Atmosphere events like the Atmosphere Snake Race.

Atmosphere is a pretty awesome company, not only for the sweet duds they churn out to keep you warm and fresh-looking, but also because they come to camp a couple of times a session and put on sick events, both on and off the slopes. They also keep a super-updated blog, so when you can’t skate or shred and you’re sitting around geeking out on your computer (don’t kid yourself, we do it, too, it’s cool), you can check up on what’s going on in the Northwest, with their team, and with your favorite snowboard camp, of course! Check out their blog right now for a TON of Windells updates. They’ve got updates from their riders, the diggers, Session 4 snake race and more. All the photos are by Drew Smalley from DSImagery. Thanks for the love guys!

Ever wanted to play basketball with a pro snowboarder?

Rome at Windells. (l to r) Staale Sandbech, Laurent-Nicolas Paquin, Marketing Expert Ron Faverty and Filmer Leland McNamara.

Well, here is your chance. It may seem unlikely that basketball is one of the favorite activities at Windells, but stepping onto the makeshift court by the Heshin’ Delicatessen is an every day occurance as campers, coaches and staff all jump in line to play knock-out during the session. Spontaneous knock-out games happen frequently and oftentimes, sponsor will show up to hand out prizes to the top players or funny granny-style shooters.

Session 3 was the Rome Team Session and Laurent-Nicolas Paquin and Staale Sandbech got their dribble on in the biggest knock-out game Windells has ever had. The line of players wrapped almost all the way to Dex’s Shop! It was crazy and super fun. Campers won Rome tshirts and sunglasses from the Rome Team. LNP did pretty well, but Staale made it almost to the end of the game. You won’t catch Laurent and Staale playing basketball very often, so the campers were stoked to play knock-out with the guys. More photos after the jump. [Read more...]
