Windells has been the “incubator” to many of the top brands in the industry. Grenade, Bonfire Salomon, Skullcandy, Atmosphere and Saga sprouted their first knuckle hairs at Windells Camp. I had the chance to chat with Sean Harkins, a past Windells employee and now the Sales Distribution Manager at Saga Outerwear, while the guys were on campus. I caught Sean, Jordan Harper and Jeremiah Paquette in the middle of a fashion show in the Betty Rides cabin, but I don’t want to be the one to spill the beans. Sean and I chatted West Coast Session, Saga summer plans, and expansion.

Oh, college. The ups and the downs. For every closet sized dorm room, warehouse sized lecture hall, and pop-collared frat dude, there’s a Spring Break road trip, a Friday class with optional attendance, and sorority girls. Maine’s main event, the 4th annual Dumont Cup, went off at Sunday River Resort last weekend. Fifty one skiers gathered to compete for over $20,000 in prize money. The top spot went to Gus Kenworthy this year, a familiar face around Windells in the summer time. Windells Academy student, Nick Goepper, came in second, just two points behind Kenworthy’s 96.0. Last year, the two were switched; in 2011 Nick placed first at the Dumont Cup, one of the events that would propel his skiing career to a professional level. Nick has been competing and placing in just about all of the season’s major freeski events. Park City’s Joss Christianson placed 3rd. Joss is a familiar face around Windells and he’s spent plenty of time in the Private Park on hill. Alex Beaulieu-Marchand, also a student at Windells Academy, has had an incredibly successful season and placed 9th in the Dumont Cup.

The Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships turned “29 again” this winter. Superhumans Elena Hight, Jamie Anderson, and former campers Shaun White and Louie Vito topped the podiums while common folk grazed for free stuff at the sponsor tents. Method Man and Redman played a concert for VIP Open goers and, as always, too much fun was had.
Now is the time to think about summer camp! Tons of you are asking about scholarships and discounts. Let’s shine some light on the issue here. We do offer the following discounts:
1) “Good Grades” Discount (mostly A’s and B’s or a 3.4 GPA and up!) Fax us a copy of your report card or transcript and we’ll knock $50 off your camp fee just for being smart.
2) “Bring a Friend” Discount In your registration paperwork (under “How’d you hear about camp?”) persuade your friend(s) to put your name down and you’ll get $50 off for every friend that’s new to Windells. Over the years we’ve discovered friends respond well to bribery with candy.
3) USASA Discount Are you a USASA member? That’s neat. We’ll give you $151 off of camp.
Windells Camp is accredited by the American Camping Association. What does this mean for you? There’s money floating around the universe waiting to be scooped up! Search for federal grants. They’re out there.

Summer 2011 has officially begun and Session 1 is in the books! Mother Nature has been generous this winter and we’ve got more snow than we know what to do with. Combine that with around a dozen new features and you’ve got an amazing place to ride!
Yobeat dropped in on session one and brought the likes of Forest Bailey, Will Bateman, Nial Romanek, and Johnny Lazz to rip it up! Enjoy the snowboard edit!
On the ski side of things, we have some awesome coaches out here, and some hot camper action session 1. They wasted no time throwing down!
The LIFEBLOOD team rolled through campus and skated for a couple days in the Concrete Jungle. Check out the video!
The skate campers had a good time visiting some of Oregon’s awesome parks, and of course, also ripped up our private park as well.
Forrest Bailey, Nial Romanek, and Will Bateman take a lap from Palmer, through Windells, through Public park and to the Mile lift. It’s over 2 miles!!! That is pretty darn good for summer shredding!
