During Session 7 last summer, the Technine Team was at camp, and while that is awesome in itself, things were even more exciting when the T9 crew rolled into camp, because they had just been named the winner’s of the 2011 Transworld Team Shoot Out. Continue reading →

During Session 7 last summer, Colin Walters, Dylan Alito, Brandon Hobush and the Hobo Headwear Crew came to camp and put on a backflip clinic. It was the last day on hill, the sun was out in full force, and there wasn’t a cloud anywhere. They built a mini backflip kicker and campers, coaches, and pros took turns getting upside-down.
Summer camp is perfect for learning backflips because the snow is so slushy. Everyone was hucking and stomping backflips, some for the first time. The crew on the sidelines cheered every time an attempt was made. It’s impossible to explain the energy of the contest, but it was one of the funnest days on hill all summer. Here’s a few photos to bring you back, we can’t wait for Hobo to come back to camp in 2012!

When it’s a hot, summer afternoon in the woods of Oregon and you’ve spent all day shredding, what’s one of the best ways to cool down?
Waterballoon fight!
Well, maybe not exactly a fight, as a downpour of waterballoons from the top of a van where members of the Technine Team are throwing them at a crowd of people. Sounds like a pretty good time? We thought so. For this week’s Take me back Tuesday we remember Technine waterballoon surprise. Continue reading →

Digger Austin Leonard blunt on the double rail.
The Windells Diggers are always looking to get creative with the on hill park. They are a hard-working crew of guys that, in between taking hotlaps and hawking Digger Dogs, spend their time dreaming up weird and creative features for the park. And it pays off. In summer 2011, campers, staff, and riders saw a ton of tubes, coping-inspired jibs, and lines that could be hit in any direction down or across the park. It drew similarities (as much as possible when transitioning to snow) from the Concrete Jungle and allowed for skate-inspired creativity in picking how to hit a feature and where to go to next. Riders like Dylan Thompson and Austen Sweetin rode the park multiple sessions last year because of the high level of fun that the Diggers had created with this set up. Continue reading →

So, yes, at camp we spend all day on hill snowboarding or skiing or off hill at local skateparks skating or bmxing, but when you get back to campus in the afternoon, you can do anything that your heart desires on the Windells campus. Surprisingly, one of the most popular post-shredding things to do is play knock out or bump, as Stevie Bell calls it:

Andrew Brewer launches the spine with a picturesque nosegrab.
It’s official: 2011 summer snowboard camp has come to an end. The towropes have stopped, the rails have been taken down, and everyone’s boots will finally be given the chance to dry out. It’s always sad to see the season go, but lucky for everyone at Windells, Session 7 was one of the best summer finales that we could have asked for. The weather was super sunny and there was tons of snow, so it was perfect both on hill and in the Concrete Jungle. Campers, visiting riders, and staff spent every moment shredding, making sure to squeeze the most fun out of the session before it was over. Continue reading →
