Team Takeover Thursday: Why are these snowboarders stoked for camp this summer??

The excitement of summer snowboard camp at Windells is an equal-opportunity kind of fun. It transcends age, gender, and location; whether you are a six year-old day camper learning to skate in the Concrete Jungle for the first time, a 45 year-old IT Specialist who spends vacation at Hood, snowboarding with like-minded adults, or a high school junior, who worked all winter at the local pizza joint to save up money to fly out for your favorite session–everyone counts down the days to their Windells session with equal anticipation.

The same goes for professional snowboarders, too. While they spend the winter traveling to exotic snowboarding destinations like Austria, Jackson Hole, and Japan (and everywhere in between), they also have a huge amount of excitement about spending time at Windells once summer hits. Besides the fact that these guys and girls drop into 100 foot jumps, massive double kinks with intimidating two story drops on one side, and can pretty much do any trick they want at the drop of a hat, they’re not that different than us, right? Well…at least at camp they can help us learn awesome, new tricks and it’s really cool to meet someone you’ve watched in videos and find out they’re as down to Earth as your next door neighbor. But, back to the important part, how stoked everyone is–camper, staff member, or Team Takeover rider–to come to Windells this summer.

We’re really lucky to have a group of the nicest, funnest, friendliest, and most talented snowboarders at camp each summer and the crew for 2012 is going to be great. For this edition of Team Takeover Thursday, here are a few reasons some of the Team Takeover crew can’t wait for Windells this summer.

#Windells: our favorite instagrams from you! – May 9, 2012

p: @specicus

Zombie dodgeball facepaint can be as creative as you’d like. If you prefer to look like a classic movie zombie, Windells counselors can paint your face that way. If you prefer to channel Captain Jack Sparrow and other famous moustachioed individuals, that’s just as awesome, too. Above, camper @spencicus shows off his pirate-style stache.

And with that awesome example of what Windells is @spencicus, we bring you this week’s collection of instagrams, tagged #Windells. This is Windells through your eyes. To join in and maybe get your instagrams on the blog, tag your photos #Windells2012 and #funnestplaceonearth

Team Takeover Thursday: What IS a Team Takeover Session?

So, we’ve been throwing around the phrase “Team Takeover Sessions” a lot on the blog recently, and if you haven’t been to camp the last few summers since we started inviting pro riders to take over sessions, you may not be familiar with exactly what this means. Plus, Team Takeover is the brand spanking new title for these sessions for 2012.

So, we’ll start at the beginning. What is a Team Takeover Session? Well, a Team Takeover Session (you’re going to read this phrase a lot) happens every session at snowboard and ski camp during the summer. A group of pro snowboarders takes over snowboard camp for the week, while a group of pro skiers takes over ski camp. The riders arrive the same day as the campers and come to orientation to introduce themselves. Starting day 1 on hill, the fun really begins! [Read more...]

Seven Springs teaser “Evaporate”

Seven Springs is a mountain in western Pennsylvania that has been making waves in the snowboard world over the past few years. Under the direction Of Joel Rerko, along with the dedication of a talented park crew, Springs has become the number 1 resort for park on the East Coast and a must-go for many pro riders. The Forum Snowboards team has held photo and video shoots there, much of which can be seen in their recent team videos. It’s not often an East Coast mountain gets this much love and Seven Springs definitely deserves it!

We love Seven Springs, too, because a ton of our awesome Windells family call the resort home. Head Counselor Jamison rides there, and former (and fantastic) staff members still hang out/work/shred there (Jeremy, Keri, Jordan, Chuck, Chris, AJ…the list goes on). It’s a pretty rad resort–did you see Forum’s The Streets set up they built this year?! Team Take Over Riders Cam Pierce, Stevie Bell, Nic Sauve, Austen Sweetin, and Niko Cioffi all traveled to Springs in January to hit the humungous street set up.

With all the love we have for this resort and the folks that ride it, we couldn’t have been more stoked when the teaser for Seven Spring’s 2012 season movie, “Evaporate” was released. Check out the trailer above. We can’t wait to watch it!

Take me back Tuesday: Niko Cioffi hanging out at camp!

The Windells crew is out at USASA Nationals in Colorado right now, and seeing a ton of camper friends is making us so excited for summer to get here! We can’t wait for Head Digger Chase and his crew to build the best summer on hill park, we can’t wait to skate the Concrete Jungle, and we can’t wait to see more friends! Speaking of friends, Niko Cioffi is one of our favorite dudes in the world (have you seen his part in Forum’s team movie, Vacation?). Last summer, he came to camp, with a couple of the infamous Gremlinz, during Session 2. He slayed all of the rails in the park, hung out with campers on campus, and created a brand new game called Capture the Schwag.

The crew at Capture the Schwag with Niko and Fellow Gremlin, Dakota Whittaker.

Niko is coming back to camp Session 5 with Cam Pierce, Nic Sauve, Austen Sweetin, and some Gremlinz will be there, too! It’s going to be awesome!

Fun on campus: Sessions 3, 4 & 5 Activities Video

The activities at Windells are endless, and for session 3, 4, and 5 it went off! From Stevie Bell Knockout, to the session end Dance Party, kids were busy with nothing but fun. Check out some of the stuff that went down on campus!

Session 5 snowboarding recap with Eric Willett, Austen Sweetin, Jonah Owen and Cam Pierce!

Summer’s more than halfway over and at Windells, we’re trying to figure out where the time has gone (it probably has something to do with all of the snowboarding and skating we’ve been doing the last two months). It’s sunny out, there’s tons of snow, and each week the park keeps getting better and better. Session 5 just came to a close, and if you missed it, here’s what went down. [Read more...]

Session 2 snowboard recap: Nike 6.0, Gremlinz, Voluerz, and more!

It’s almost the end of June and that means that Session 2 has just finished up at Windells Snowboard Camp. The first month of summer has been flying by, as every day has been packed full with fun activities on and off the hill. The Nike 6.0 Team hosted Session 2, and with all of the park laps, skating, and Zombie Dodgeball the riders were taking part in, it was hard to tell who was having the most fun: Mason Aguirre, Sage Kotsenburg, Greg Bretz, Matt Ladley, and Ellery Hollingsworth, or all of the campers they were hanging out with!
