The Flow Snowboarding Team is Taking Over Session 7 2012!

Did you hear? Team Takeover Session 7 features the Flow Team! Come shred with Scotty Lago, Tim Humphreys, Brandon Reis, Nial Romanek, Sarka Pancochova, Celia Millers, Thrasher Dog, and the Flow Micron Team during Session 7 for the ender to the summer! It’s going to be awesome!

Take me back Tuesday: Niko Cioffi hanging out at camp!

The Windells crew is out at USASA Nationals in Colorado right now, and seeing a ton of camper friends is making us so excited for summer to get here! We can’t wait for Head Digger Chase and his crew to build the best summer on hill park, we can’t wait to skate the Concrete Jungle, and we can’t wait to see more friends! Speaking of friends, Niko Cioffi is one of our favorite dudes in the world (have you seen his part in Forum’s team movie, Vacation?). Last summer, he came to camp, with a couple of the infamous Gremlinz, during Session 2. He slayed all of the rails in the park, hung out with campers on campus, and created a brand new game called Capture the Schwag.

The crew at Capture the Schwag with Niko and Fellow Gremlin, Dakota Whittaker.

Niko is coming back to camp Session 5 with Cam Pierce, Nic Sauve, Austen Sweetin, and some Gremlinz will be there, too! It’s going to be awesome!

Windells at USASA Nationals 2012

The Windells crew is out at USASA Nationals right now, hanging out in the sponsor village and checking out the competition. USASA is one of our favorite events each year, because it is a big reunion. Lots of Windells staff are at Copper Mountain, Colorado coaching, and lots of camper friends, that we haven’t seen since summer, are competing! Jeanette and Angela have been hanging out in the tent getting everyone stoked for summer 2012! [Read more...]

On the road with Nial Romanek

Awesome friend of Windells (and one of the riders taking over Session 7 with the Flow Snowboarding Team next summer!), Nial went on a film trip to log some hammers for Think Thank in Duluth, Minnesota a few weeks ago. The trip was a collaborative one between a crew of friends, coming from MN and Tahoe, who were all logging shots for different videos, but wanted to film together. Nial was joined by Durell Williams, Viktor Simco, Sammy Spiteri, and filmer Paul Heran. Nial is a Minnesota local, originally from Hibbing, which is not too far from Duluth. Nial gave us a glimpse into life on the road with some iphone pictures. Check out the sneak peak, but to see the boarding, you’re going to have to wait for Think Thank’s new movie, “Mind the Video Man” to come out next fall! [Read more...]

Kenworthy and Goepper top the podium at 4th annual Dumont Cup

Maine’s main event, the 4th annual Dumont Cup, went off at Sunday River Resort last weekend. Fifty one skiers gathered to compete for over $20,000 in prize money. The top spot went to Gus Kenworthy this year, a familiar face around Windells in the summer time. Windells Academy student, Nick Goepper, came in second, just two points behind Kenworthy’s 96.0. Last year, the two were switched; in 2011 Nick placed first at the Dumont Cup, one of the events that would propel his skiing career to a professional level. Nick has been competing and placing in just about all of the season’s major freeski events. Park City’s Joss Christianson placed 3rd. Joss is a familiar face around Windells and he’s spent plenty of time in the Private Park on hill. Alex Beaulieu-Marchand, also a student at Windells Academy, has had an incredibly successful season and placed 9th in the Dumont Cup.

Congratulations on the wins, guys! We’ll be seeing you around camp!

The best is out West: a spring storm hits Mt. Hood

A spring storm has hit the Northwest! Mt. Hood is getting an insane amount of snow this week. Snow really started falling yesterday and we don’t see any sign of it letting up. Meadows reported 25″+ in the last 24 hours and a total base of 169″. The evidence is in the snapshot of their picnic tables! Timberline is sitting pretty and prepped for a fantastic summer. We were happy to see this photo of the Palmer buried under the late winter snow pack. Timberline’s reported base depth of 198″ is above average!

Take me back Tuesday: staff sale

Have you ever wanted to buy a snowboard from Johnny Lazz? A sweatshirt from Tom Wallisch? What about a “Digger Dogs” sticker from Kyle Martola? At staff sale, you can find these things and more, as the coaches, counselors and rest of the Windells staff set up boards, skis, boots, outerwear, and more in BOB in the style of a shred-only flea market. You can get new-to-you gear from your favorite snowboarders, skiers, and skateboarders that work at camp. Staff sale happens once a session, every week during the summer and is the place to check out a lot of new gear and up and coming companies that many of the riders, skiers, and skaters at camp are involved in. Windells at the 30th annual Burton US Open

The Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships turned “29 again” this winter. Superhumans Elena Hight, Jamie Anderson, and former campers Shaun White and Louie Vito topped the podiums while common folk grazed for free stuff at the sponsor tents. Method Man and Redman played a concert for VIP Open goers and, as always, too much fun was had.

How to: Get your butt to Windells this summer

Now is the time to think about summer camp! Tons of you are asking about scholarships and discounts. Let’s shine some light on the issue here. We do offer the following discounts:

1) “Good Grades” Discount (mostly A’s and B’s or a 3.4 GPA and up!) Fax us a copy of your report card or transcript and we’ll knock $50 off your camp fee just for being smart.

2) “Bring a Friend” Discount In your registration paperwork (under “How’d you hear about camp?”) persuade your friend(s) to put your name down and you’ll get $50 off for every friend that’s new to Windells. Over the years we’ve discovered friends respond well to bribery with candy.

3) USASA Discount Are you a USASA member? That’s neat. We’ll give you $151 off of camp.

Windells Camp is accredited by the American Camping Association. What does this mean for you? There’s money floating around the universe waiting to be scooped up! Search for federal grants. They’re out there.
