Opening day at Timberline Lodge!

Next stop is the top, Photo @windellsacademy

Lifts are spinning on Mt. Hood! The Palmer Chairlift reopened to the public October 11th, 2013. While the Academy students had no problem earning their turns each day, they breathed a sigh of relief to catch the “easy” way up. Wax your equipment, grab a friend, and get stoked on preseason shredding!

Camper and Academy student Reid Smith at Windells

Reid Smith, Photo: Erik Hoffman

Reid Smith is a great kid. He’s been both a Windells camper and Academy student for a number of years now. He has a great attitude and he’s always down to learn something, and he tries until he gets it on lock. Reid bagged clips in both session edits and camper edits at Windells this summer, and Ian Macy helped Reid produce a summer edit of his own! Check out Reid at Windells with guest appearances from Greggor Zedd and Eli Lamm.

Windells Head Ski Coach Jeff Curry is one tough dude! He’s an all around boss and he’s channeling his boss energy into recovering from a spill on hill earlier this week.

Jeff posted on his facebook page earlier this morning, “Thanks to everyone for wishing me well and showing me love! After spending 6 days in a hospital bed I am now in the comfort of my own home. I have amazing people out here in Oregon helping me get through this tough time and want everyone to know that you will see Jeff Curry back on skis. I am focused on getting better and have a strong mind to assist me during this unfortunate situation. Thank you all for your support!”

Get well soon, Jeff!

Checking in with Head Snowboard Coach Danger Dave

Danger Dave, our Head Snowboard Coach, has been stacking frequent flyer miles and riding days this season. Hitting the open road every chance he gets, Danger has taken the Windells Academy students on a whole bunch of adventures this year. Now that he has landed back in Oregon for the summer, we wanted to check in with him and see for ourselves what he has been doing! We are so excited to have Danger back running the show and providing a fun, progressive summer of riding for all of our campers. Now let’s check out those grams!

Windells Academy’s Nick Goepper wins his first X Games gold

This year’s X Games athletes put on one heck of a show. Across the board, snowboarding and skiing was pushed to a whole new level in Aspen this past weekend. The list is long, but Windells is particularly proud to congratulate our very own Nick Goepper on his gold medal in Men’s Ski Slopestyle.

Nick first started attending Windells Academy in 2009. The Academy welcomed Nick to the program to ride year-round and hone in on his passion for the sport. Through the Academy, Nick was able to travel and compete in events like Dew Tour and X Games and turn his dream of becoming a professional skier into a reality. Congratulations, Nick!
