What’s Up @WindellsCamp: 10/1

Crisp mornings, earth tones, and Halloween decor are indications that autumn has arrived. It’s what you would expect on October 1st, but what you wouldn’t expect is that at Windells we are still snowboarding, skiing, and skateboarding everyday. How? Windells Academy.

Currently twenty students are enrolled in a fully accredited and competitive academic school program, while simultaneously riding their prospective shred tools of choice. Mt. Hood’s Palmer Glacier has provided sufficient snow in association with a beautiful PNW indian summer that has allowed our fall park to be nothing short of exceptional. The same fair weather patterns have offered ideal skateboarding conditions that have allowed skateboard students to tour a multitude of different skateparks in Oregon and Washington. Studying and a top notch education is our first priority at Windells Academy, but we don’t deny that our action sport extracurriculars are equally important.

Last Monday was the fall semester’s start for the Windells Academy 14’/15′; It also was the curtains open for the ONLY Fall Park open in North America. The Fall Park and the Academy are synonymous with one another, and yet both unbelievable feats on their own. It is a place for the diehards, home for the Olympians-to-be and the schoolyard for students with a dream. Check out a few images that explain What’s Up @WindellsCamp.

Windells and High Cascade join forces for Summer 2014

It’s time to bury the hatchet. After years spent in pursuit of one common goal, Windells Camp, Windells Academy, and High Cascade Snowboard Camp are forming a partnership to deliver the premiere year-round snowboard, freeski, skateboard, BMX camps and educational programs. The strategic partnership will build up each brand’s strengths, giving campers at Windells and HCSC an even more memorable customer experience and access to world-class facilities both on-hill and off.

Combined, the camps will offer an unrivaled summer snowboard and ski camp experience with three private terrain parks, Oregon’s best indoor and outdoor skateparks, two high-speed quad chairlifts, four surface tows, four BagJumps, two mini-pipes, and North America’s only Olympic-sized 22’ Summer Superpipe, which serves as the summertime Olympic training facility to the U.S. Snowboarding team and all major contending countries around the world.

So, what does this mean for Windells campers?

Windells Camp and High Cascade will operate as usual this coming summer from each camp’s respective campus. We plan to give our guests and campers the same summer camp experience that both camps have offered in the combined 50 plus years of operations with a few added amenities.

What’s new for Summer 2014?

  • Windells and HCSC campers will share scheduled access to the 22′ Superpipe, the only one of its size in North America during the months of June, July and August
  • The Lap Park will be accessible to both Windells and High Cascade’s campers
  • HCSC campers will have scheduled access to skate the Concrete Jungle and BOB

What’s ahead for Windells and High Cascade?

Together, Windells and HCSC will make Mt. Hood the clear place to be this summer. By uniting two world class summer camps – professional staff, world class facilities and the best private snow parks from June to October – Mt. Hood will become the undisputed leader in year-round action sports camp destinations

Do you want to spend your summer on Mt. Hood but have already signed up for a camp elsewhere? Don’t worry! We’ll credit your camp tuition the cancellation fee from another camp up to $500 when switching to our camps. Call for more details.

The 2014 US Snowboard Slopestyle and Halfpipe team was announced this past weekend at Mammoth Mountain. We couldn’t think of a more deserving group of athletes! The Winter Olympics are especially exciting for the Windells family because so many US and international competitors have spent time with us as campers on Mt. Hood. We’ve hosted some of them since the young age of 6, like Shaun White. Others, like Sage Kotsenburg, Chas Guldemond, Ty Walker, Greg Bretz, Taylor Gold, Danny Davis, Kelly Clark, Kaitlyn Farrington and Hannah Teter attended multiple sessions as Windells campers and then returned to Windells as visiting athletes or training with the US Team just a few summers later.

It’s true when we say Windells is a stepping stone for the Olympics!

Gold Meets Golden: Olympic Freeskier Nick Goepper at the Golden Globes

Windells Academy alum Nick Goepper is going to Russia for the Winter Olympics, and he enjoyed some extra perks of his Olympic status at the 2014 Golden Globes. When Gold meets Golden, an NBC Olympic promotion, allowed some very starstruck Olympic hopefuls to get the royal celebrity treatment on the red carpet. Rubbing shoulders with the biggest names in Hollywood, the big names of the action sports world had an amazing night. Take a look at some of Nick Goepper’s pictures from the evening here, and make sure to root for Nick at the 2014 Olympics starting February 7th!
