Checking in with Head Snowboard Coach Danger Dave

Danger Dave, our Head Snowboard Coach, has been stacking frequent flyer miles and riding days this season. Hitting the open road every chance he gets, Danger has taken the Windells Academy students on a whole bunch of adventures this year. Now that he has landed back in Oregon for the summer, we wanted to check in with him and see for ourselves what he has been doing! We are so excited to have Danger back running the show and providing a fun, progressive summer of riding for all of our campers. Now let’s check out those grams!

The West Coast Session 7 wraps up on Mt. Hood

CamSnyder-photoBenKrause

“The seventh annual West Coast Session wrapped up last week in Mt. Hood, Oregon. Over 60 talented young skiers, photographers and filmers gathered here for an unconventional spring training camp and end-of-season celebration hosted by Timberline Ski Area and Windells Camp, and sponsored by Buff, INI Cooperative, Camtrol, Ion, Auviq, Amplid and Hillcrest Sports.

This year’s attending athletes included: 2013 X Games Slopestyle gold medalists Nick Goepper and McRae Williams; the world’s only double-corking female skier Lisa Zimmermann; international competitors in slopestyle and halfpipe including Alex Beaulieau-Marchand, Noah Morrison, Taylor Seaton and Jamie Crane-Mauzy; the Traveling Circus duo of Andy Parry and Will Wesson; and other well-known athletes including Karl Fostvedt, Dale Talkington, Tim McChesney, Niklas Eriksson, Nicky Keefer, and many more.

In all, 48 skiers were split among six film teams for the Camtrol/Ion Session Showdown Video Contest (contest entries will be released online later this month), while six invited photographers competed in the Photo Contest presented by Buff.

This was also the first year that a strong group of female freeskiers took part in the Session. Lisa Zimmermann, Jamie Crane-Mauzy, Maude Raymond, Philo Bair and Kristie Beavert all capably represented the women’s side of the sport in the video contest.

WCS7 featured six days of skiing and the skiing lifestyle, including two sunset shoots on our private 80-foot kicker at Timberline, an epic backcountry booter session during the inaugural Tommy Ellingson Backcountry Invitational, and lots of skating at Windells Camp.”
