The only bone Jake Selover had to pick was his consistent back boneless’ on the vert wall.words and photos (unless otherwise noted) by Tyler Orton
The 15th Annual Bonfire Pipe to Pipe went off at Mount Hood yesterday. Windells was proud to be the host for the snowboard and skateboard contest, the longest-running contest on Mount Hood in the summer. Hammers were the norm both on hill and off hill.
If you weren’t at the Windells campus on July 21st for Pipe to Pipe 2012, you were missing out. Period. You’ve probably seen photos, videos, instagrams, and facebook posts all over, here’s a second look at Pipe to Pipe from our side of things.
What’s the difference between a regular trophy and a Pipe to Pipe trophy? You only get a battle axe at Pipe to Pipe. The music was loud, burgers were on the grill, the crowd was ready, and it was time to party. Everywhere you looked, every corner you made, there were people skating like hot fire; from the groms to the pros, and everywhere in between. Kids like Sean Fitzimmons and Jake Selover were showing the crowd how it’s done with a great start, shooting the biggest gaps and getting gnarly on everyone’s favorite feature, the giant vert wall. The next heat, 16 and over, went off with some killer skating. Jordan Small placed first and Nick Kenney got second, two of Windells’ hardworking employees, won well-deserved trophies and prizes. Girls like Justice Tabor and Traci Green, who placed in the Woman’s Pro Heat, were mashing around the park letting everyone know that they were not messing around.
Sean Fitzimmons was getting the job done that evening. Getting a proper boardslide on the wall was part of it.
We only know how to do it right here at Windells. DJ Matty Mo was providing a great soundtrack for everyone at the contest. Now let’s get down to business. There’s a reason why you save the best for last and that’s why we ended Pipe to Pipe 2012 with three Pro men’s heats–two qualifying rounds and then a final round, allowing everyone to see some of the gnarliest skating ever held at this contest. These dudes were not afraid to go hard and show everyone what they’re made of. Check the photos to see for yourself.
Salmon are fishy and love to chase waterfalls. Nick Peterson gets fishy with stale and chases vert walls.
I’m not sure if you can tell but I think Sawyer Deen has skated this park before. Maybe once or twice. Backside 270 on the hip.
Nick Peterson showed no fear all day. Unfortunately he went down at the end but managed to get up and walk away from it. Hope you’re feeling better, Nick.
