One of the best days of summer, the Second Annual Technine Doughnut Eating Challenege, went down in Session 7. Last year, the competition ended in a sugary storm, and this year, there were more doughnuts and more powdered sugar.

Technine team riders, Derek Dennison, Dylan Thompson, Andrew Brewer, and the T9 Prospects, Zander Blackmon, Ben Bilodeau, and Brady Larson hosted the event. Dylan event competed, almost getting all of the doughnuts down before the powdered sugar started flying. Continue reading →

Summer 2011 comes to an end…

Summer 2011 has come to an end. It’s always sad to see it go, but it was an amazing season filled with so much snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding, bmxing, so many sponsor activities, on hill competitions, visiting pros to meet and watch shred…there was so many fun things to do, it went by so quickly!

It’s hard to pick out just a few favorite moments from summer 2011–there’s so many to chose from, but we gave it a shot. Luckily, Windells is year round, so the awesome times don’t have to stop! Open skate and bmx is happening on the weekends all fall. If you live in the Northwest, come skate the Concrete Jungle and BOB. After that, it’s time for winter and spring camps!

There’s a lot to do this winter, but before the snow falls where you live, here are a few of our favorite moments from summer 2011: Continue reading →

Windells Academy trip to Seattle part 2

One of the coolest things about Windells Academy (and that is saying a lot, because what isn’t cool about getting to snowboard and ski twelve months out of the year?), is the many industry trips that the students attend. During these trips, which happen a few times a month, Windells Academy students get a first-hand look at real jobs, real companies, and real ways that they can grow professionally after high school and college. Industry trips take students to Portland, Oregon, Seattle, Washington, and even to snow/ski/skate industry hotspots like Southern California.

This summer, Windells Academy students went to Seattle to visit the K2 offices and warehouse. Here is part two of their trip to Seattle and check out part one, where the students went to a Mariners baseball game. Continue reading →

Windells Academy trip to Seattle part 1

Ok, so maybe school in the summer doesn’t sound that great. It’s a bit of an oxymoron, right? Summer’s about having fun, vacationing, (and of course if you’re at Mount Hood) snowboarding, skiing, and skateboarding. That is where Windells Academy comes in, because President Mike Hanley has found a way to make school in the summer fun. Crazy, right?!

Going to Windells Academy means skiing and snowboarding during the day, doing some schoolwork in the afternoon (which isn’t that bad), and taking trips on the weekends to awesome places, close by like Portland, where students check out Nike’s headquarters and get a firsthand look at working in the industry, or further away, like Southern California, where students visit Transworld Snowboarding Magazine’s office and go surfing. A few weeks ago, Windells Academy students went to Seattle, to Mervin Manufacturing, where both snowboards and skis are made. While there, they got to check out the sights around Seattle. They took a ton of photos, so check out part 1 of the Windells Academy Seattle trip, here, where they went to Mariners game! Continue reading →

Session 7 Snowboard Recap

Andrew Brewer launches the spine with a picturesque nosegrab.

It’s official: 2011 summer snowboard camp has come to an end. The towropes have stopped, the rails have been taken down, and everyone’s boots will finally be given the chance to dry out. It’s always sad to see the season go, but lucky for everyone at Windells, Session 7 was one of the best summer finales that we could have asked for. The weather was super sunny and there was tons of snow, so it was perfect both on hill and in the Concrete Jungle. Campers, visiting riders, and staff spent every moment shredding, making sure to squeeze the most fun out of the session before it was over. Continue reading →
