Hump Days at Hood, ROME team at Windells!

Camper of the Day: Daniel

We’re onto the last day of session 2 at Windells Camp and while the majority of the camp is skiing & snowboarding, the skate camp at Windells has 14 campers of all ages out there skating every day. We came across 18 year old adult camper Daniel from Florida at skate camp has kept progressing, improving and staying passionate in his skating this session.

How do you like the skate camp at Windells so far?
Daniel: It’s been a really good week. I had some bummed out crashes, sent to the ER for a cat scan and had a minor concussion

How’s the skating been since then?
Daniel: Good actually, just taking it easy but good.

What tricks have you been working on?
Daniel: A lot of my vert tricks like frontsmiths, stalefishes…mostly air tricks. Just basic training.

Why did you choose to come to skate camp at Windells?
Daniel: I just needed to get away and try something new. I want to come back here forever to keep working on my skateboarding.

How’s the coaching in the skate camp?
Daniel: I like them, they’ve been helpful.

What’s a typical day like at skate camp?
Daniel: Getting up wicked early, going to breakfast, skating BOB or the concrete jungle. Then we get in the van to drive and hit up skateparks, hit them up and work on skateboarding.

How do you like the skate setup at camp?
Daniel: Just perfect. I wish we had parks like these in Florida. You don’t see a lot of this stuff in Florida.

Have you done any other activities at camp?
Daniel: Not too many, just skateboarding since it’s such a good park.

Session 1. Skateboarding.

With the end of session 1 there was so much skate footage that we decided to put together two skate videos. The first one posted above is of the new concrete here at Windells. Session 1 campers were the first to pump around, scratch coping, and pop a couple of ollies in the new park, check out the edit. The second video is of some skate trips taken by the session 1 campers. Oregon is home to some of the best parks in the world, and these campers got to experience what it is to be part of the skateboard community in the skateboard capitol of the US…

Check out this early session elph edit filmed on campus at the Windells skatepark. If you think that this is rad, just wait to see what’s coming down the pipeline. Donovan Rice was here, just a little hint…

Camper of the Day: Megan

It was a beautiful sunny day on the slopes at Windells Camp where we found the snowboard girls rallying the jumps. Camper Megan started out on the small jump and progressed to the first jump in the main line so we were stoked to give Megan Camper of the Day. At age 17, Megan comes from Pittsburgh, PA where she rides Seven Springs in the winter.

Why did you choose to come to Windells Camp?
Megan: To become a better snowboarder.

How is the coaching so far?
Megan: Amazing. Ricky and Droid have been super helpful with everything.

What tricks have you been working on this session?
Megan: I learned how to 180, boardslide and frontside.

Have you participated in the on-campus activities?
Megan: I tried to do the Burton ladies night but that wasn’t happening. Pretty much did all of them except for the nasty drinking. The Betty Rides night was finger nail painting and movies with candy.

What advice would you give to other campers?
Megan: Have fun and don’t worry about what other people think. That was my problem, I was worried about the other girls in my cabin what they were doing. But today I just did my own thing to become a better snowboarder.

Any shoutouts?
Megan: Yeah Ricky owes me digger dogs for my frontside and 180′s.

Tom is a 40 year old snowboard camper here with his son Luke a 7 year old skier. They’ve been ripping up the mountain and having a blast here at Windells Camp.

Why did you choose to come to Windells Camp?

Luke: For skiing

Tom: I wanted to be with Luke for his camp.

Do you like being together at camp?

Luke: Yeah

Tom: I do like being around my son, he’s a good kid and he’s very popular at the digger dog tent. He dropped two hot dogs today so I got to eat extra for lunch.

Camper of the Day: Danielle

The morning may have started out in the clouds but the sun came out for the afternoon at Windells Camp. Coach Dania was leading the ladies in the park and pipe today and that’s where we found Camper of the Day Danielle, a 16 year old ski camper from Bellevue, WA. Danielle remained up-beat and optimistic despite some foggy moments, she constantly charged each feature to progress her skiing.

Why did you choose to come to Windells?
Danielle: I really wanted to improve my park riding. I really love skiing so I thought it’d be a great way to ride in the summer.

How do you like the coaching so far?
Danielle: I love it, Dania is so cool and really helpful. She really helped with boxes when to pop and what to do to land switch off of them. She’s helped with jumps and what to do with there too.

How do you like camp so far?
Danielle: I love it, its so much fun. I wish I could stay for more than one session.

What are you working on this session?
Danielle: I’m working on my spins like 360′s and 180′s. I’m working on pipe riding and boxes like 270 outs.

How do you like the on-campus activities?
Danielle: I love it. I’m not very good at skateboarding but I’ve tried rollarblading and trampolining is really fun too. I’ve got some stickers and a beanie from a sponsor night but I haven’t won anything else…hopefully tonight!

Stoked to have Danielle be camper of the day! Stay tuned for more campers as session 2 progresses.
