It is now official. Louie Vito is a member of the United States Snowboarding halfpipe team for the upcoming Olympic games in Vancouver.
The announcement came during a ceremony following the final U.S. Grand Prix event at Park City, Utah.
“We tried to work it out mathematically and it looked like he had it, but you just never know because coach’s discretion goes into the decision,” said Louie’s father Lou on Sunday by phone from Utah. “Seeing him come out with his Olympic uniform on, we could finally rest easy. It’s finally over.”
The Olympic halfpipe competition is set for Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Cypress Mountain, which sits on the outskirts of Vancouver.
Windells Academy ski students took off last thursday, headed for Big Bear for this years Gatorade Free Flow Tour. Windells Academy students Lyman Currier and Mike Mochan competed in the freeski slopestyle event. Mike Mochan took the podium in third with a cork 900 over the Gambler followed by a 540 into a switch 540. Lyman Currier took 2nd stomping a 9 to 540 to switch 5, and ending with a rodeo. It was a very fun event and a great sight to see for all. Windells summer digger Jason Arens of South Lake Tahoe became champion with a first place medal! His switch 900 to 540 into a switch 720 is what placed him in the slot for first place over 30 other skiers. Way to go Windells!
The snowboard students of Windells Academy enjoyed their time last week at the Mt. Snow stop of this years Revolution Tour. Aside from being able to attend a totally awesome high school year round, traveling across the country to events like the Dew Tour, Rev Tour, and Gatorade Free Flow Tour; AND getting to meet and ride with some of the biggest names in the industry…. The students of Windells Academy even have way too much fun on their “down” time! The students have full access to ALL of our 53 acres of skate, mountain bike, foam pit, trampoline and bmx features. That means instead of recess during school, we have our mid day break in B.O.B (the building out back) which gives kids time to wind down and get out their energy before going back to school. B.O.B includes 12,000 square feet of skate features including a huge bowl, multiple quarter pipes, rails, and 2 different drop in options that will put you straight into the foam pit. B.O.B also has a world class trampoline to practice all your coolest tricks before you put them on snow. Windells Academy is the “funnest” and smartest place ON EARTH!
After flying back home to New York for the Holidays Will and Andy map out a zigzagging course through the mid-west with hardly enough rest, lots of driving and enough skiing to break a mans spirit.Tune into the Line Traveling Circus Episode 4 on a computer screen near you, admission is free.

The students of Windells Academy had the time of their lives last week at the Utah stop of this years winter Dew Tour. The students enjoyed time at the contest itself, cheering on their friends and peers in slope style and halfpipe, and witnessing some of the craziest ski aerials known to man. The students had the great pleasure to spend time with people in the industry such as Jimmy Disco (US Team), Shannon Bahrke (Olympic Silver in moguls), Todd Schirman (FIS World Coach of the Year) and many others. The students made an awesome visit to Ccauswell headquarters (www.surfaceskis.com), took a trip to the flow rider indoor surf and water sports center, and even took a lesson on indoor sky diving!
