Alex Midler 11 years old from California is a snowboard camper this session and today he won the skateboard portion of the Gatorade Free Flow Tour at Windells. Besides being a killer skater, Alex is an incredibly eloquent 11 year old. Here’s what he had to say about his week so far at Windells, including his win today. Congratulations Alex!
Windells: What’d you do today?
Alex: I’m a camper at Windells this week. My mom surprised me and took me on a plane to go to Windells, and I love Windells. And I woke up and skated my heart out [in the Free Flow Tour stop in BOB] and did good and won.
Did you know there was going to be a free flow stop here when you came in as a camper?
Well like I said, my mom surprised me and took me out here and then she told me. I remember she was telling me earlier in the summer that there was a Free Flow Tour here, but we were probably not gonna make it. Then, she surprised me and took me here.
You’re a snowboard camper, right?
Yeah, I’m a snowboard camper. The reason that I am a snowboard camper is because I never get to snowboard in the summer and it’s so cool that you can snowboard in the summer. This is my first time at Windells.
What do you think of the skate stuff at camp?
The skate stuff is amazing. It’s so fun.
So now you get to go to Utah, right?
Yeah, I get to go to Utah with my friends. Some of my friends qualified at the other contests, so, now I get to go with them.

What was your banger trick today? I saw you landed a bunch of them.
I think my kickflip boardslide on the rail. I learned those a year ago and now I have them really down. They only take me two or three tries, so I’m stoked I got that one. And my back 360, I just learned those. I’m proud that I landed it first try, because I thought it was gonna take me a while. I landed it first try in finals so that helped me a little bit.
