Over the past weekend of 11/6-11/8, The 2009/2010 USASA Fall Summit was hosted at the Windells campus. 36 different regional point series representatives attended judging clinics, technical delegate clinics, and regional direction clinics throughout the weekend of 11/6-11/8. Beyond the clinics there was much fun to be had in the evenings. Events included but were not limited to knockout, dodgeball, dizzy bat relay, hot dog eating contest, and jousting.
53 individuals were randomly selected to take part in 4 different teams; The Alan Alligators, Pearson Pinschers, Collins Killers, and Robins Goblins. Each event came to a conclusion with an awards ceremony, but in the end, everyone was a winner.
The American Camp Association® (ACA) announced today that Windells Camp has received ACA-Accredited® Camp status for 2010!!! Windells has been a proud partner of the ACA for decades, and thanks to their accreditation process, every year the quality of camp and the camper experience improves exponentially.
“ACA Accreditation means that Windells Camp submitted to a thorough (up to 300 standards) review of its operation by the American Camp Association (ACA) — from staff qualifications and training to emergency management — and complied with the highest standards in the industry,” said Cindy Moore, National Standards Commission.
“Parents expect their children to attend accredited schools. They also deserve a camp experience that is reviewed and accredited by an expert, independent organization,” Moore said.
“Windells Camp and ACA form a partnership that promotes summers of growth and fun in an action packed environment committed to safety,” said Rachel Lemons, Vice President, “ACA accreditation demonstrates our commitment to quality camp programming.”
ACA is the only independent accrediting organization reviewing camp operations in the country. Its nationally-recognized standards program focuses primarily on the program quality, health and safety aspects of a camp’s operation. ACA collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to assure that current practices at the camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation. For more parent-focused information about accreditation, visit ACA’s www.CampParents.org.

This past weekend, Windells had a crew down at he Portland Ski Fever selling product, camp programs and displaying our Summer Camp Videos. We were posted up near the Rail Jam, Tramp Expo and the Indoor Skate Ramp; we hope that everyone had a chance to come by and say hi. We met a lot of good people, passed out a ton of cool stickers and had a great time. If you could not make this show in Portland, look for Windells at the Seattle Show of the Ski Fever or the San Fran & Sacramento Ski Dazzle Shows.
WINTER IS HERE!!! Timberline opened lifts for the season this past saturday morning at 9:30am. The students of Windells Academy headed up the mountain for a full day of powder and park runs. It has been snowing all day every day since saturday. Timberline has a park up with rails and boxes for all abilities, and Mt. Hood Meadows is scheduled to open tomorrow!
This summer Anthill Films came to Windells and built some huge dirt jumps and wood structures. Check out some photos from their time spent at Windells here and watch out for their new video featuring Windells Dirt.
In the world of skiing videos, there exists big production films, documenting only the top pro skiers on terrain no average human will ever access. On the other side of the spectrum is the 60 second online sponsor me edits. Last season Line and it’s underground band of misfit skiers lead by Will Wesson & Andy Parry set out to document skiing like never before. No high production camera crews, no snowmobiles, no heli trips to AK, just a couple of guys and a camera criss crossing the US in search of nothing but an angled surface to slide on armed with good old fashioned creativity. It was reality TV meets skiing and the overwhelmingly positive response from skiers around the world watching this FREE monthly online series was mind blowing. The show received over 20,000 views per episode and over 200,000 views for the year of all 9 episodes. Will & Andy became overnight icons of the everyday skier and skiers around the globe demanded a follow up season.
Don’t let Johnnie’s size fool you. This gentle giant can spin, cork, and flip more ways than you probably thought possible. Johnnie is the newest member of the Rome team and he’s quickly made his mark on the snowboard world with an endless stream of photos and video featuring his smooth style and an almost rebirth of late bonks and stylely jibs. Paxson can ride anything put in front of him, but let’s see what he comes up with for the answers to his top 5’s.
