Tons of snow on Timberline

Alexandra Erickson, one of Windells’ camera- wielding film mavens was up at the hill yesterday and shot some photos. The sky was unusually gray, but there’s tons of snow up there!

America’s Next Top Pro Model

It’s always been a secret of yours: long days shredding followed by longer nights watching marathons of Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model. The photo shoots, the drama between the models, the crazy makeovers–you love it all but are scared your friends could find out that you watch it…well, it’s time to feel better: trade in the make up brushes and photoshoots in China, for bindings, boards and a trip to Timberline. America’s Next Top Pro Model is coming to Windells.

SNOWBOARDER Magazine has a history of putting on innovative events that culminate in great riding and tons of fun, and this summer SNOWBOARDER is partnering with Windells to put on America’s Next Top Pro Model. In July, a slew of pro snowboarders will bring their signature gear to the Windells park on Timberline to compete against each other in a unique and creative contest to decide who will be America’s Next Top Pro Model. For three days you can  watch your favorite pro shred as he or she competes in events that are all about how FUN snowboarding is. What events? You’ll have to check back to find out…we’ll give you more info as July gets closer.

Rome SDS killing it as always…

Getting picked up from the airport in this van will be awesome.

Rome’s marketing and events man, Ron Faverty, and the local Rome crew have been at camp for the last few days, enjoying the Oregon sunshine and getting everything dialed in for summer. The Roadhouse has been plastered with new walls featuring LNP and Bjorn Leines in some uncomfortable situations (you’ll have to get out to camp to check it out…) and they just finished working on the Rome van today.

The Rome crew put their blood, sweat and tears into this van over the last two days.

Rome’s theme this year might be the coolest one yet and the SDS’ secret plans for their sponsor nights are even better. Brush up on your survival skills and you could win a bunch of Rome gear this summer.

Ron also brought in all of the 2010 Rome boards, boots and bindings for the Demo Lab. The Demo is stocked full of Artifact 1985s, Postermanias, Lofis, 390s, Libertines…everything you could ever want to try out from the SDS, shiny, brand new and not in stores until the fall. Be sure to stop in the Demo when you get out to camp to check it all out.

It was certification day at Windells for all coaches and staff.  A Red Cross worker came into Bob and gave us all hands on training on both first aid and CPR.   It was very interesting and the teacher held the attention of the class very well.  Here are the highlights:

1. You can’t use crazy glue instead of stitches, it just takes longer to heal.

2.  If you knock out your teeth, put them in Milk and get to the dentist fast!!!

3.  If giving CPR, it’s 30 pumps to every 2 breaths of air into the person.

4.  It’s really easy to make a sling out of a bandanna.

5.  The CPR dummies actually had lungs so you could tell if you were positioning them correctly when giving mouth to mouth.

People like us understand that there are consequences to the risks we take and it’s always a good idea to get freshened up on First Aid.  Check your local Red Cross website and sign up for a quick refresher course.  Every body falls, if your not falling, your not pushing yourself.  Thus, learn how to take care of any problems you might have and get back to riding faster.  Of course we never hope to use any of the information learned today, but it’s nice to know that the people taking you to the slopes and the skateparks know what to do in case anything happens.  Windells always has your back!!!!
