Launched today are our Winter and Spring camps for the 09/10 session. They will fill up fast so if you are trying to get a group of friends or your team signed up, the sooner the better. How cool is the new feature on the site that shows how full the sessions are? Don’t take my word for it, click on the REGISTER tab on the website or just click HERE. These are the first few camps we have made available with more to follow so check back often to find the camp that fits your schedule appropriately.
Mt. Hood received a few new inches of snow this week, adding to the already impressive 700 inches that are already laid down. Summer sessions start soon and spots are limited. This is shaping up to be the most exciting year in Windells history with all new activities, features, and programs spouting everywhere. With a new feature, pro, and surprise around every corner, Windells is where you want to spend your summer!!! oh, did i mention 700 inches of snow???? Yes I did…
Everything is better once the sun is shining. It was a beautiful day here at the Windell campus and crews are working diligently to get last minute stuff done before camp starts. Pictured are a few mountain shots and The Concrete Jungle. It feels like every time you turn around there is a new concrete obstacle or a dirt jump that you didn’t before.
We have confirmed a large percent of ski and snowboard coaches and pros for this summer and let me tell you there are some BANGER names on the list. I’ll save that list for your early week consumption but until then I’ll leave you with THIS.
Windells was the setting for the new Haro Free Ride Mountain Bike team. A few of Haro’s riders shredded bob in front of paparazzi lenses which will be used in future projects such as catalogs and media adventures. The team was heard saying that course was fun and they could be seen climbing out of the foam pits all night long. Your welcome back anytime…
Jamie and Company getting crazy on the new concrete structures. This is a berm that now has a matching brother being build on the back side of it. I can’t stress how learning to lay concrete can improve your session as well as give a sense of accomplishment for fixing a spot. Get to camp, ask Jaime for a lesson and get your quick creet on…
And this picture is to remind everyone that Free Ski is amazing. Mt. Hood is an epic background followed by the most progressive riding in your life. The best part is you get to see people riding like this every day. If you can’t progress here, amongst the top professionals and US Olympic medalists, you might want to try street luge or something needing a full on fireproof suit. Check out the best of Free Ski video, if you don’t know, now you know…
Proving that consistency is key, Windells, Timberline, and Bonfire have teamed to continue the legacy of Pipe to Pipe, the world’s longest running snowboard rail and skateboard contest. Set on the majestic Mt. Hood, Timberline lodge and Windells are opening up their campus’ to bringing together both professional and amateurs to compete for cash and prizes.
All events are free and open to spectators with a Barbeque to follow the days festivities. The dates are set for June 12th, July 11th, and July 19th and supported by Bonfire, Timberline, Windells, Salomon Snowboards, and Transworld Snowboarding. In its 12th year, Pipe to Pipe has witnessed careers grow and spawned the freshest talent. Past competitors include Lucas Magoon, Nick Dirks, Salas Baxter Neil, and Steven “Manchild” Reyes. Check www.windells.com and www.bonfiresnow.com for updated information.
Our star free ride builder Sam and Purveyor of the Dream “Jaymo” were interviewed on PinkBike.com about their goings on at Windells. The footage is pretty unreal with the log drops and top professionals shredding the Windells Campus. What’s crazy is that the footage is now old and the campus has expanded 5 fold. Things are getting dialed over here with demo bikes and other goodies arriving daily. Free Ride Mountain bikes and Windells were made for each other.
Here is a fun web edit that Windells videographers have put together. It is all the highlights from the 2008 summer sessions. A few of the rails and jibs will be returning, but if your keeping track, you know we have tons more rails that are exclusive for the 2009 sessions. Anyway, it snowed about a foot on Mt. Hood last night and this video is only a tease on the limitless possibilities at Windells Camp. Sign up now, sessions are filling SO fast!!!
Happy Star Wars day. “May the 4th be with you” is apparently why. Jeanette is the person you talk to when you call mid-day, and this is what she looks like holding up the Internet antenna. Windells is awesome.
Jamie is an important man around campus and that is because he is our head concrete builder and head skate coach. Make sure you ask for a lesson when you come to camp on dialing in your dream skate spot. Got cracks or a bank that needs a little kicker, Jamie will happily show you the secrets to proper concrete work.
Here is a good example of what hard work can yield. This is just a start too, wait until the newer photos are uploaded, they are making this berm to have lines leading into and out of it. With this obstacle, you can skate from the top of camp to the bottom of camp and not have to take a single push or stay in any straight line at all. Creativity is key!!
And speaking of lines, we have bmx trails still in affect. It’s kind of a double edge sword because every time it rains we have to stop building trails, but it means MORE snow on Mt. Hood. Weather details for tonight show 100% chance of snow between 7-14 inches. But don’t be scared campers, a few messed up pairs of shoes have never stopped our trail builders before. Be ready for the summer of your life…
And here is all the “buzz” at camp today. We received our private tow lift that will “bring Mt. Hood into the 21st century” according to Tim Windell. Basically Windells has gotten rid of tired lines for lifts and opened up the doors of limitless by having a toe line that is completely portable. We pride ourselves on having new Jibs and features for every session, and with the new lift we are able to let the creative juices flow and build the most progressive lines Snowboarding and free-ski has ever ridden. “With a maximum speed of 400 feet per minute and the ability to extend up to 1,200 feet, lift lines at Windells will be a thing of the past,” Tim Windell.
Also confirmed is our new “Pro-built obstacles.” Headed up by Pat Milberry, he will hand select a different Pro to build their own specific dream feature. This is not a “one time only” thing either, Every session will have a different Pro adding to the already impressive Windells training facility.
Speaking of dream features, Mt. Hood received about two feet of powder this week. NOW IS THE TIME to book your session for the summer as 20 NEW campers signed up today alone. Call your friends, fiddle around the new website, do a kickflip, and get dialed in for the greatest summer of your life…
